Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride is a modern day healing pioneer. Born in Russia, and currently residing in the U.K., she is a medical doctor with postgraduate degrees in neurology and nutrition. Following the privilege of healing her own son of Autism, she turned to helping others who face the same or similar challenges, and so was born the concept of GAPS or Gut and Psychology Syndrome.
Dr. Campbell-McBride understands that diet and gut health are critical to recovery for Autistic children, and she wrote the book Gut and Psychology Syndrome to share with the world her discoveries, knowledge and successes. Now a classic, her theory is that bad bacteria and yeasts in the gut are the primary cause of autistic behaviors. These microbes produce toxins that go the the brain and cause various behaviors, and also disturb digestion keeping their victim from receiving the nutrients needed to be healthy. Dr. Campbell-McBride designed a diet and lifestyle protocol for healing based on the work of a previous pioneer who developed The Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Her own work was named "The GAPS Diet" by her patients and followers.
Dr. Natasha has observed that many other "syndromes" have their origin in disturbed gut flora. She lists Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, A.D.D, A.D.H.D., depression and schizophrenia as other conditions sharing this common thread. She has worked with children and adults all over the world and brought healing and recovery to their lives.
If you follow Dr. Natasha's work you will encounter her theory of Gut and Physiology Syndrome, which postulates the clear link between gut health and body health. Health researchers and scientists around the world have "caught on" to this theory. First stated by Hippocrates, "All disease begins in the gut", this idea has gained solid acceptance among researchers, and is now being explored, even mapped (The Microbiome Project).
Fortunately, you don't have to travel to the U.K. to learn about how to bring healing to autistic or GAPS sufferers. Many tools are available to begin this healing journey. First, read her book, Gut and Psychology Syndrome. Research websites such as www.gaps.me and www.gapsdiet.com. Consider consulting with a GAPS practitioner who has been trained by Dr. Campbell-McBride. I believe I am the only one currently in the Middle Tennessee area.
My goal as a GAPS practitioner is to support you through your journey to healing. I offer an initial consultation with optional follow up consultations. I also conduct the Traditional Foods Cooking School as adjunct training for those who need help learning to prepare foods for the GAPS diet such as sauerkraut, bone broth and yogurt. To set up an appointment, email [email protected]
Additional books by Dr. Campbell-McBride that you will want to read include Internal Bliss, recipe book, GAPS Stories Book and Put Your Heart in Your Mouth and her latest, Gut and Physiology Syndrome. Her blog site is www.Doctor-Natasha.com.
